Tashkent Hosts Opening of Asian MMA Championship
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A ceremonial opening of the Asian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship was held in Tashkent, according to official reports. Athletes from 23 Asian countries are participating in the tournament.
The competition is taking place as part of one of the continent’s largest sporting events. Participants are competing for titles in various weight and age categories.
The opening ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of international organizations and the sports community.
President of the Asian MMA Association Gordon Tang and President of the Mixed Martial Arts Association of Uzbekistan Aziz Tashpulatov addressed the participants, wishing them success. They emphasized that sport helps strengthen friendship, cooperation and interaction between countries, and that the development of MMA in Asia is linked to the growing level of international competitions.
It is noted that the championship serves as the fourth and final qualifying stage for the Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan. Winners and medalists will earn the right to compete at the Asian Games in Saudi Arabia.
The Uzbekistan national team is represented by 50 athletes in the tournament, competing across different weight and age categories and representing the country on the international stage.
