Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, sent an official message of deep condolences to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The reason for the message was a large-scale tragedy resulting in numerous human casualties and a significant number of injuries following a powerful explosion and subsequent fire at a major gas processing complex in the Ras Laffan industrial zone.
According to Sherzod Asadov, the press secretary for the head of state, the leader of Uzbekistan conveyed sincere words of sympathy, empathy, and support to the families and friends of those killed in the accident, and wished a speedy and full recovery to all those who sustained injuries.
The industrial disaster occurred on the evening of 21 June 2026 at the Barzan gas processing plant, located in the Ras Laffan industrial hub near the capital of Qatar, Doha. According to official data, the incident claimed the lives of at least 13 people, while another 66 citizens sustained injuries of varying severity. The state energy corporation QatarEnergy officially commented on the situation, stating that the root cause of the destructive incident was a local technical malfunction that occurred directly during the startup of the facility's production capacities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan promptly analyzed the situation to ensure the safety of compatriots in the region. According to verified data from the press service of the foreign policy agency, there are no citizens of Uzbekistan among those killed or injured during the incident at the Qatari facility.
The diplomatic mission of the Republic of Republic of Uzbekistan in Doha is operating in an emergency mode and maintains continuous around-the-clock contact with the Ministry of Interior of Qatar, the administration of the industrial zone, and other authorized state structures to monitor the development of the situation surrounding the liquidation of the accident's consequences.
