Share of Retail Loans in Uzbek Banks Rises to 37%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — As of 1 June 2026, the aggregate credit portfolio of Uzbekistan's banking system reached 636 trillion soums, representing a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Concurrently, the share of loans allocated to individuals rose from 34% to 37%, reflecting the growing role of retail lending in the country.

The total volume of loans issued to the population stood at 232.9 trillion soums. Meanwhile, industry remains the largest single sector for lending, accounting for 139.5 trillion soums. However, its share in the overall credit portfolio fell over the year from 28% to 22%.

The agricultural credit portfolio reached 67.2 trillion soums, equivalent to 11% of the total volume. The trade and services sector accounted for 53.2 trillion soums, or 8% of the portfolio, while transport and communications accounted for 34.4 trillion soums, or 5%.

The construction sector recorded the fastest growth rate among all economic activities. Lending volumes in this sector surged by 48% compared to the same period last year, reaching 21.6 trillion soums.
