Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The 46th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (RATS SCO) was held in Islamabad on 14 September 2026 under the chairmanship of the Pakistani side, the SCO Secretariat reported.
The meeting was attended by delegations from the competent authorities of SCO member states and representatives of the organisation’s Secretariat.
Security and countering threats
Participants exchanged views on strengthening practical cooperation to ensure regional security.
In her address, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yanfang outlined the main outcomes of the Bishkek Summit held on 1 September 2026. In particular, she highlighted agreements reached on ensuring security and stability and countering challenges and threats in the SCO region.
The meeting underscored the important role of RATS SCO in deepening cooperation among member states in combating terrorism, separatism and extremism.
Information security risks
Piao Yanfang also drew attention to growing risks in the area of information security. She stressed the need for the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies.
In particular, it was noted that such technologies must not be used deliberately to harm people’s lives and health or to the detriment of national security, territorial integrity and the sovereignty of states.
Following the meeting, the heads of delegations held a joint meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
The meeting was held in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere.
