Russia outlines hybrid nuclear power project in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A hybrid nuclear power plant project is being implemented in Uzbekistan with the participation of Russian technology, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk said during a briefing with journalists.
According to Overchuk, the project envisions the construction of a unique energy facility comprising two large-capacity power units based on VVER-1000 reactors, as well as two small modular units with RITM-200N reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW.
He noted that such a configuration, combining large-scale and small nuclear generation at a single site, is being implemented for the first time.
Overchuk said that the pouring of the first concrete for the reactor building foundation will mark the transition of the project into the construction phase of a nuclear power plant in accordance with standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The deputy prime minister also stated that Uzbekistan is of interest to Russian investors as a rapidly developing and diversifying economy where favorable conditions for doing business are being created.
Alexey Overchuk is part of the Russian delegation accompanying Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who is on a working visit to Tashkent.
