Presidents of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan Visit New Mosque in Turkestan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a working visit to Kazakhstan, together with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, visited a new mosque built by the Uzbek side in the city of Turkestan.
The total area of the complex exceeds 7 hectares, and the mosque is designed to accommodate more than 5,000 worshippers. The architectural ensemble includes four minarets, each 70 meters high, and a main three-story building featuring a spacious prayer hall and traditional aiwans.
It is noted that the architecture of the complex combines elements of Islamic and Eastern design traditions, national ornaments, domes, tall minarets, and modern engineering solutions. The interior is decorated with Islamic calligraphy and ornamental elements.
Special attention was paid to landscaping the surrounding area of 4.2 hectares. Green zones, walking paths, recreation areas, fountains, and lighting systems are being developed.
It is emphasized that the mosque has become a symbol of centuries-old friendship, cultural closeness, good-neighborliness, and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the visit, verses from the Holy Quran and prayers were recited for peace, well-being, and prosperity of the peoples of both countries.
