President Mirziyoyev reviews new 24/7 public space in Sergeli
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reviewed the results of the modernization of Yangi Sergeli Street in the Ittifoq mahalla of Tashkent's Sergeli district on 4 July 2026, inspecting the operations of the retail, tourism, and service facilities located there.
The head of state was presented with the 18.7 billion soum project, under which a 2.1-kilometer section of the street was completely modernized and transformed into a round-the-clock public space combining retail, catering, and entertainment facilities.
To build a comfortable urban environment, more than 10 children's playgrounds and eight workout zones have been established across the territory, alongside a bookstore and a leisure center for senior citizens.
More than 21,000 people reside in the four adjacent mahallas, and an average of 15,000 to 20,000 vehicles travel along Yangi Sergeli Street daily. Once the project reaches full operational capacity, it is expected to serve over 1.2 million visitors annually.
The implementation of the project has generated more than 250 new jobs. Furthermore, 95 existing businesses expanded their operations, and an additional 22 launched new ventures.
During the visit, the president viewed residential buildings renovated in the national architectural style, landscaped streets, and public spaces, and held conversations with mahalla activists and local residents.
During the discussion, Shavkat Mirziyoyev inquired about how the ongoing transformations have affected the living standards of the population. According to the mahalla representatives, the renewal of the territory contributes to rising household incomes, an enhanced quality of life, and increased public confidence in the future.
