Oregon Governor Proclaims 1 September Uzbek Independence Day

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Oregon Governor Tina Kotek signed an official proclamation declaring 1 September 2026 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in the state, according to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle.

The document, signed on 18 August in the state capital of Salem, marks the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's state independence, highlighting the country's sovereignty, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to peace, prosperity, and national development. State Secretary Tobias Read also co-signed the proclamation under the great seal of the State of Oregon.

The proclamation emphasizes Uzbekistan's ongoing economic and social reforms, expanding international engagement, and effort to strengthen regional cooperation in Central Asia. It notes that bilateral relations between the United States and Uzbekistan continue to develop across trade, investment, technology, education, clean energy, tourism, and humanitarian contacts.

The document highlights the role of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle, which serves Oregon, in fostering cultural, economic, educational, and humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and the state. It further acknowledges the contributions of the Uzbek-American community and friends of Uzbekistan in promoting cultural understanding between both peoples.

In the proclamation, Kotek officially declared 1 September 2026 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in Oregon and encouraged all residents of the state to join in the celebration.
