New Uzbekistan Ambassador Begins Mission in UAE

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, Umid Shodiev, has presented copies of his credentials to Omar Obaid Al Shamsi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Uzbek–Emirati cooperation in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian areas.

The UAE Foreign Ministry representative wished the new ambassador success in his diplomatic mission and confirmed readiness to further expand bilateral cooperation. In response, Shodiev expressed his intention to strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.

Umid Shodiev, 43, is a graduate of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and has been serving in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2005. He began his diplomatic career as an assistant officer and later held various positions, including assignments at Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions in Washington and New York.

From 2018 to 2023, he served as Uzbekistan’s representative to UNESCO in Paris. In 2023, he was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee.

He replaces Abdullaziz Akkulov, who served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to the UAE from 2022 to 2025 and was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee in December 2025.
