New Electric Train Launched Between Tashkent and Bekabad
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A new electric train has begun operating on the Tashkent–Bekabad route in Uzbekistan. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Bekabad on the train, where he was presented with the results of the modernization of the railway connection between the capital and the city.
The launch of the route was carried out under a presidential decree dated 27 December 2025, which provides for increasing the volume of domestic passenger rail transport until 2030. The document aims to upgrade transport infrastructure and expand the regional railway network.
The length of the Tashkent–Bekabad route is 192 kilometers. The new train is calculated to carry about 1,000 passengers per day, with the annual passenger traffic reaching 300,000 people.
A six-coach electric train with a capacity of 586 passengers will operate on the line, capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. The launch of the new train is expected to increase the convenience of travel, including for residents who commute daily for work and studies.
The train is equipped with lifts for people with disabilities, air conditioning and heating systems, soft seats, USB ports for charging mobile devices, and a Wi-Fi network. In addition, the coaches are fitted with video surveillance systems, electronic information boards, and special spaces for transporting bicycles.
According to data presented to the president, the introduction of the new electric train will reduce the load on highways and increase the share of environmentally friendly transport in passenger traffic.
Following his review of the project, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the responsible departments to continue developing the railway infrastructure, improve conditions for passengers, accelerate the electrification of railway lines, and upgrade the surrounding areas. The head of state paid special attention to the issues of developing station infrastructure, improving the quality of service, and organizing passenger flows efficiently.
