Mirziyoyev Reviews Sheet Metal Production in Bekabad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the sheet metal production process at the new casting and rolling complex of the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant (Uzmetkombinat) in Bekabad, where the technological process is managed from a single control room.

The head of state was presented with the operations of the new complex, the construction of which began after the laying of the first stone during his visit to Bekabad on 29 August 2018. The cost of the project amounted to US$839 million. The production facility was built on an area of 18 hectares and is designed to meet the growing domestic demand for metal products.

As reported during the presentation, after the complex reaches its design capacity, the total production volume of the enterprise is planned to increase to 2 million tons per year. An additional 1.04 million tons of rolled sheet metal will be produced, and the number of plant employees will increase to 7,000 people.

The president was also informed that large-scale modernization has been carried out at the enterprise in recent years. As a result, the net profit of the plant increased from US$14 million in 2017 to US$23 million in 2025.

The new complex was created using technological solutions from the Italian company Danieli. For the first time at the enterprise, a continuous steel casting machine is integrated with all technological equipment and managed through a single system. While previously the production process was controlled from four to five separate consoles by nine employees, these functions are now performed by three specialists.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to further improve the management system through the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, as well as to increase the stability and economic efficiency of the production complex.

According to information presented during the visit, the equipment of the complex features a high level of automation. In particular, the replacement of the main rolls is now performed automatically without stopping the production process in 5 to 7 minutes, instead of the previous 30 to 40 minutes.

The president also examined samples of products manufactured from the new sheet metal. Responsible officials presented information on the value chain in the production of hot-rolled sheet metal and the products planned for development in the republic.

In addition, the head of state was briefed on measures to regulate the turnover of rebar products in the construction industry, strengthen control over the use of ferrous rolled metal at construction sites, and reduce seismic risks.
