Mirziyoyev: Uzbekistan to Chair Non-Aligned Movement

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will chair the Non-Aligned Movement for the first time from 2027 to 2029, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s state independence.

The Non-Aligned Movement is a global grouping comprising more than 120 states, according to the president.

Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan would continue promoting initiatives aimed at increasing the organization’s effectiveness. Economic diplomacy will remain one of the country’s foreign policy priorities.

The president noted that the number of countries that have established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan had approached 170. He said Uzbekistan had achieved historic progress in expanding good-neighbourly relations, strategic partnerships and friendship in Central Asia, while ties had strengthened with countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the European Union, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region and the Arab and Muslim world. New areas of cooperation have also been opened with countries in Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America.

Mirziyoyev separately addressed the Afghan direction, saying Uzbekistan would consistently continue its constructive policy towards neighbouring Afghanistan.

“We will continue pursuing a multifaceted, balanced and measured foreign policy to turn Uzbekistan into an important centre of international diplomacy,” the president said.

Mirziyoyev also thanked members of the diplomatic corps, foreign media representatives and senior guests from the United States, Türkiye and Singapore who attended the ceremony for their fruitful cooperation.
