Mirziyoyev to attend SPIEF and meet Putin in St. Petersburg

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev will visit the Russian Federation on a working trip to take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), according to the press service of the Kremlin.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled for 4 June. During the talks, the leaders will participate via videoconference in the launch of construction of the first power unit of an integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

On 5 June, the main plenary session of the forum will take place, bringing together President Vladimir Putin, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of China Han Zheng, and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud.

The participation of Uzbekistan reflects its growing involvement in major international energy and economic initiatives.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of ongoing implementation of Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy project. In September 2025, Uzatom and Rosatom agreed on an updated configuration of the integrated nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan.

The project foresees the construction of two large-capacity power units based on VVER-1000 Generation III+ reactors, as well as two small modular units using RITM-200N reactors.

The total planned capacity of the future plant is expected to exceed 2.1 GW, including approximately 2 GW from the large-scale facility and 110 MW from the small modular units.

Preparatory works are already underway at the site in Jizzakh region, including excavation for the reactor building foundation. Initial concrete works have also begun to establish the base structure of the facility.
