Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Speaker of South Korea’s National Assembly Cho Jung-sik on 15 September during his state visit to South Korea. The sides discussed the role of the two countries’ parliaments in developing the Uzbekistan-South Korea special strategic partnership.
The meeting highlighted active cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. Friendship groups operate between the parliaments, delegation visits are regularly exchanged, and relevant committees of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis and South Korea’s National Assembly exchange experience.
With the support of the National Assembly and the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the “Electronic Parliament” project is being implemented in both chambers of the Oliy Majlis.
The participants stressed the need to establish a mechanism for parliamentary monitoring of the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level. Particular attention will be given to agreements on expanding trade and economic, investment, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Following the talks, the sides agreed to hold a series of events under the framework of “parliamentary diplomacy” in 2027. The events will coincide with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea.
