Man Arrested in Andijan Region Over Fake Hajj Promises
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A man has been detained in Uzbekistan’s Andijan region on suspicion of fraud linked to false promises of arranging a Hajj pilgrimage, the press service of the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
According to investigators, the suspect, identified as M.Ch., offered two individuals assistance in traveling to Saudi Arabia to perform the pilgrimage. In return, he demanded US$18,000 for his services.
He was apprehended during an оперативный sting while receiving part of the agreed sum, amounting to US$9,000.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 168 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which covers fraud. Investigative actions are currently ongoing.
