Jizzakh region expects to attract US$2.7 billion in investment in 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Jizzakh region expects to attract US$2.7 billion in investment by the end of 2026, regional governor Ulugbek Mustafayev said on 25 August at a ceremony marking the commissioning of new facilities attended by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

According to the governor, Jizzakh region has significantly changed the structure of its economy over the past decade, transforming from a predominantly agricultural area into an industrially developed region. Automotive manufacturing was the first major industrial sector to emerge, followed by the development of the energy sector.

Mustafayev noted that the new enterprise commissioned ahead of the ceremony belongs to the electrical engineering industry. The region is also preparing to launch solar panel production and a combined-cycle gas power plant.

During the ceremony, the governor spoke about a meeting with around 300 farm machinery operators held ahead of the cotton harvesting season. According to him, one of the participants, who had worked as an excavator operator when Mirziyoyev was governor of Jizzakh region, expressed gratitude to the president for his attention to local people.

Mustafayev also highlighted the region’s education indicators. This year, 40% of school graduates in Jizzakh region were admitted to state higher education institutions. Including students admitted to private and other universities, the region expects to raise the overall enrollment rate to 51-52%.

The governor attributed the results to increased attention to education and science, as well as the work of schools and kindergartens. He said young people in the region support the policies pursued by the president.

Mirziyoyev, in turn, noted the scale of changes in the investment sector. When he asked about the projected investment volume, Mustafayev confirmed the $2.7 billion target for the year.

“I see the elders here. In those days, when I worked [as governor of Jizzakh region], we couldn’t even make two soums. Would anyone have believed [then] that Jizzakh would have more than $2 billion in investment?” Mirziyoyev said.

On 25 August, ahead of Uzbekistan’s 35th anniversary of independence, 72 major industrial and service projects and 91 social facilities were commissioned across the country.

Mustafayev said the regional authorities were ready to work “day and night” to achieve the targets and implement the course outlined by the president.
