Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Iran and New Zealand played out a 2–2 draw in a group-stage match of the FIFA World Cup, held in Inglewood, California.

Iran opened the scoring in the 32nd minute through Ramin Rezaeian and added a second goal in the 64th minute from Mohammad Mohebbi. Mohebbi became the first Russian Premier League player to score at the 2026 World Cup.

New Zealand’s Elijah Just scored twice, in the 7th and 54th minutes of the match.

Following the result, both teams earned one point and sit in the top positions of Group G. Earlier in the group, Belgium and Egypt also drew 1–1.

Iran will face Belgium on 21 June in the next round, while New Zealand will play Egypt in the night of 22 June.

The World Cup is being held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will conclude on 19 July. The tournament features 48 teams divided into 12 groups for the first time.

The top two teams from each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the round of 16.
