Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A conference on expanding cooperation in human rights education and collaboration with legal media was held at the Human Rights House in Tashkent.
The event, organized by the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights jointly with the editorial board of the Hayot va Qonun (Life and Law) magazine, was held as part of celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence and the 30th anniversary of the National Center.
Opening the conference, National Center Director and academician Akmal Saidov said the celebrations of the 35th anniversary of independence were being held in accordance with the presidential resolution of 1 April 2026.
He said the approved concept and programme of commemorative events, held under the slogan "Together with One Motherland and One People, We Will Build a New Life and a New Future!", reflect the achievements of New Uzbekistan and its growing international standing.
Saidov placed particular emphasis on legal education, describing human rights education as one of the National Center's key areas of activity.
He said that, at the Center's initiative, systematic seminars and training sessions are currently being conducted in all regions of the country for prevention inspectors working with mahalla citizens' assemblies. More than 10,000 inspectors serving nearly 9,000 mahallas across Uzbekistan are expected to receive training.
As another indicator of its public outreach efforts, Saidov noted that the National Center published 2,228 items on its official website during the first half of 2026. Information was also regularly distributed through media outlets in Uzbek, Russian and English.
Participants noted that the National Center is the founder or co-founder of several specialized legal publications, including the journals Democratization and Human Rights and Public Opinion and Human Rights. Life and Law magazine has now joined the Center's permanent information partners and will help promote legal knowledge and strengthen legal culture in society.
The event also featured the presentation of the latest issue of Life and Law magazine, while legal publications and new editions of the magazine were donated to the Human Rights House.
Sirojiddin Rustamov, head of Hayot va Qonun LLC, outlined the main areas of future cooperation with the National Center, while Editor-in-Chief Mahmudkhon Toirov spoke about the key legal issues covered by the magazine.
One of the conference's main outcomes was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the editorial board of Life and Law magazine. The document was signed by Akmal Saidov and Sirojiddin Rustamov.
The memorandum provides for the development of joint educational and public awareness projects, expanded cooperation in informing the public about legal issues, support for academic research and the promotion of international human rights standards.
The event concluded with the poetry evening "Independent Uzbekistan — My Pride, My Honour," featuring works dedicated to the country's independence, the homeland and the creative efforts of the people of Uzbekistan.
Poets and journalists presented literary works reflecting the themes of patriotism, peace and national unity.
The conference marked another step in strengthening cooperation between state institutions and specialized legal publications aimed at improving legal literacy, promoting respect for human rights and expanding public access to quality legal information.
