Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A serial fraudster has been exposed and detained during large-scale operational measures conducted by the Internal Security Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
A citizen, identified as A. A., posed as a high-ranking official of the supervisory authority to systematically gain the trust of citizens and seize their funds, vehicles, and real estate under various pretexts.
The total damage from his actions exceeded 3 billion soums.
The investigation established several major episodes of the detainee's criminal activity. In the first case, A. A. convinced two entrepreneurs to invest in a fictitious scheme to purchase wheat at a reduced price for subsequent processing and high profits, defrauding them of 1.7 billion soums.
In another episode, the fake official received US$95,000 from a resident of the capital after promising to assist in reinstating a canceled decision by the khokim of Tashkent regarding the allocation of a 0.5-hectare land plot in the prestigious Yakkasaray district.
In addition, the perpetrator actively used social networks to find potential victims. After meeting a citizen, I. N., on Facebook, he guaranteed a profitable exchange of a used Cobalt car (valued at US$8,500) for a brand-new Gentra model. After taking the vehicle, the fraudster quickly resold it to third parties and kept the money. In a similar manner, after gaining the trust of a citizen, A. K., the criminal secretly made a duplicate set of keys to his apartment in the Yunusabad district. Waiting until the owner left for a trip abroad, A. A. entered the home and stole a large batch of gold jewelry.
On 18 June 2026, the suspect was officially charged under paragraph "a" of part 4 of Article 168 (Fraud on an especially large scale) and paragraph "a" of part 4 of Article 169 (Theft on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The court ordered a preventive measure in the form of detention.
The Prosecutor General's Office strongly urges all citizens who have also suffered from the illegal actions of this individual to immediately contact the short helpline number 1161, guaranteeing full confidentiality.
The agency reminds the public not to trust individuals offering dubious services on behalf of government bodies.
