Dozens Evacuated from Jizzakh Resort Following Mudslide
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A destructive mudslide, triggered by heavy torrential rains in mountainous and foothill areas, occurred in the Bakhmal district of the Jizzakh region on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
Mobile groups from the internal affairs bodies, specialists from the Department of Emergency Situations, National Guard personnel, representatives of the district khokimiyat, and other relevant agencies arrived promptly at the scene.
The mudslide flowed along the natural channel of a mountain river that passes through the Jum-Jum village and the Nushkent mahalla.
The main impact of the torrent hit the nearby Jum-Jumsoy recreation zone, where 32 vacationers were present at the time.
Thanks to the coordinated and rapid actions of employees from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Public Safety Department and rescue workers, all citizens were urgently evacuated to a safe area. No injuries or fatalities were reported as a result of the incident.
Residential homes of local citizens, infrastructure facilities, and livestock sustained no damage.
However, the natural disaster caused localized material damage to transportation infrastructure. The mudflow partially washed away and seriously damaged a bridge leading to the Jum-Jumsoy tourist zone.
In addition, parked vehicles were struck by the water flow, causing mechanical damage to two Damas vehicles and one Gentra.
The Public Safety Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that all necessary restoration works have been carried out at the site, and the consequences of the disaster have been completely eliminated.
