Central Bank Denies Claims on Ishmetov Luxury Watch

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the alleged ownership of an expensive wristwatch by its chairman, Timur Ishmetov.

The discussion emerged after users revisited a 2021 interview, during which Ishmetov was then serving as Minister of Finance. Based on the footage, some social media users suggested that he was wearing a Patek Philippe Calatrava watch valued at approximately €27,700.

In an official statement, the Central Bank rejected these claims as inaccurate. The institution clarified that the watch visible in the footage was a Tissot model, with an estimated price of around US$300–350 in 2021.

According to international retail listings, similar Tissot models are currently priced at up to about US$500, with discounted prices occasionally dropping to just above US$300.

Earlier this week, similar discussions emerged online regarding Sherzod Kudbiyev, head of the National Committee for Sustainable Urbanization and Housing Market Development, who was also linked by social media users to wearing a watch allegedly worth around US$50,000.
