Brazil Defeats Haiti, Turkiye Eliminated From World Cup
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Brazil national team secured a confident 3-0 victory over Haiti in the second round of the World Cup group stage. The match took place in Philadelphia.
Matheus Cunha scored a brace for Brazil, finding the net in the 23rd and 36th minutes. Vinicius Junior scored another goal during first-half stoppage time. During the match, Brazilian midfielder Raphinha sustained an injury and was substituted in the 40th minute.
After two rounds, Brazil has accumulated four points and moved into first place in Group C. Morocco also has four points, followed by Scotland with three points. The Haiti national team, having suffered its second consecutive defeat, has lost all chances of advancing to the round of 32.
In another match of the day, Turkiye lost to Paraguay with a score of 0-1. The lone goal was scored just 64 seconds into the match by Matias Galarza, setting a new tournament record for the fastest goal. The previous record stood for less than a day and belonged to Morocco's Ismael Saibari, who scored in the 71st second of a match against Scotland.
Late in the first half, Paraguay was reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of forward Miguel Almiron. Despite the numerical advantage, the Turkish team failed to equalize and suffered its second defeat of the tournament.
Following the round, Turkiye lost its chances of reaching the knockout stage, becoming the second team after Haiti to be eliminated early from the title contention ahead of the final group games. The United States leads Group D after winning both of its matches, guaranteeing its participation in the knockout stage.
The final matches in Groups C and D will take place on the night of 25 June into 26 June. The World Cup is being hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and is featuring 48 national teams for the first time. The tournament will conclude on 19 July. Argentina is the reigning world champion.
