World Bank Backs Uzbekistan's Digital Transformation Push
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan's IT sector is accelerating its push into global markets, with the World Bank doubling down on support for the country's digital transformation agenda through a dedicated inclusion project spanning AI, workforce development, and IT exports.
IT Park Uzbekistan Director General Azamat Karamatov met with a World Bank delegation led by Isabel Neto, Practice Manager for Europe and Central Asia, to review progress under the jointly implemented "Uzbekistan Digital Inclusion" project and map out next steps for the country's growing digital economy.
The talks centered on three strategic pillars: expanding the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) sector, strengthening the population's digital skills, and advancing artificial intelligence initiatives — areas Tashkent has identified as central to its broader economic modernization strategy.
The "Uzbekistan Digital Inclusion" project is a trilateral effort between the World Bank, the Ministry of Digital Technologies, and IT Park Uzbekistan. Its mandate encompasses supporting the country's digital transformation, growing the IT sector's export capacity, and building long-term human capital in the technology space.
The meeting signals continued momentum in Uzbekistan's drive to position itself as a regional technology hub. Since the government launched sweeping IT sector reforms in recent years, IT Park Uzbekistan has emerged as the institutional anchor for attracting investment, incubating tech companies, and administering preferential tax regimes for resident firms.
The involvement of the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia practice underscores the multilateral dimension of Uzbekistan's digital agenda — one that extends well beyond domestic infrastructure to encompass skills pipelines and competitive positioning in international services markets.
