Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Law enforcement agencies have uncovered three cases involving the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs in Khorezm and Syrdarya regions. A total of 506 grams of opium and 119 grams of hashish were seized.
The first case occurred in Tuproqqala district of Khorezm region. During a joint operation, officers from the Khorezm regional department of the State Security Service, the regional internal affairs department and customs authorities stopped a Lacetti vehicle traveling along the Surkhandarya–Khorezm route.
During an inspection, officers found 490 grams of opium on a passenger, a resident of Angor district born in 1960. The man had previously been convicted twice of drug-related crimes.
According to law enforcement authorities, he intended to sell the drugs in Khorezm region. It was established that the opium had been smuggled into Uzbekistan from a neighbouring country.
In another case, 119 grams of hashish were found during an inspection of a passenger in an Onix vehicle traveling along the Tashkent–Khorezm route. The man, born in 1968, resides in Urgench.
Another case was uncovered in Akaltyn district of Syrdarya region. Officers from the Jizzakh regional department of the State Security Service, together with the regional internal affairs department, stopped a Lacetti vehicle traveling along the Syrdarya–Jizzakh route.
The driver, a resident of Jizzakh born in 1974 who had previously been convicted of a drug-related crime, aroused the suspicion of law enforcement officers. During a personal search conducted in accordance with established procedures, 16 grams of opium were found and seized inside his footwear.
Criminal cases have been opened against all detainees. Investigative measures are underway.
