Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has adopted, in its third reading, a bill to improve the procedure for military service.

The bill provides for reducing compulsory military service by one month for servicemen who finish in one of the top three places at the national stage of the Ma’naviyat qalqoni book-reading competition. The document has been submitted to the Senate.

The competition is held among conscripts serving in the ministries and agencies that make up Uzbekistan’s Armed Forces.

The proposed measure is intended to promote reading and enhance the spiritual and intellectual potential of servicemen.

The bill also provides a legal framework for concluding new contracts with graduates of higher military educational institutions in Uzbekistan and abroad who have qualified as pilots.
