Uzbekistan President Departs for Astana Visit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev departed for Astana on April 21 on a working visit at the invitation of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the visit, the head of state will take part in a regional environmental summit as well as a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the founding countries of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. The events are scheduled for 21–22 April.

The summit agenda includes discussions on strengthening regional cooperation in the interests of sustainable development in Central Asia, as well as addressing pressing environmental, climate and water-related challenges facing the region.

Mirziyoyev is expected to present Uzbekistan’s views and proposals on key agenda items. The visit will also include a tour of an environmental exhibition featuring national pavilions.

A number of joint documents aimed at enhancing regional cooperation in the environmental sphere are expected to be adopted following the meetings.
