Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Authorities in Uzbekistan’s Navoi Region have uncovered the alleged embezzlement of 1.3 billion soums in budget funds allocated for irrigation works. A criminal case has been opened, the press service of the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office said.
The Navoi regional department of the agency conducted the inspection and found that officials from Navoiysuvqurilishinvest, the reclamation expedition under the Lower Zarafshan Basin Irrigation Systems Authority and two private companies had colluded.
According to the inspection materials, payments for DIVER equipment under the contracts had been made in full, while the reported volumes of work actually completed were overstated.
As a result, budget funds totalling 1.3 billion soums were allegedly embezzled.
A criminal case has been opened under the article concerning misappropriation or embezzlement. Investigative proceedings are ongoing.
