Uzbekistan Average Life Expectancy Rises 9 Years Since Independence
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The average life expectancy of the permanent population of the Republic of Uzbekistan is demonstrating steady and long-term positive dynamics.
According to an official demographic report prepared by the National Committee on Statistics, by the end of 2025, this indicator reached 75.4 years on average across the country.
A retrospective analysis conducted by the agency points to major qualitative progress in public health and the standard of living of citizens. Since the republic gained independence in 1991, the average life expectancy of Uzbek citizens has increased by exactly 9 years.
Statistical data over the last three and a half decades allow for a detailed tracking of the stages of change in this critical social indicator. During the transition period of the early 1990s, specifically in 1991, the average figure stood at a baseline level of 66.4 years.
However, by 1995, the benchmark rose to 69.1 years, and at the turn of the century, in 2000, the officially recorded life expectancy crossed the 70-year threshold for the first time to reach 70.8 years. By 2005, this indicator strengthened to 71.8 years, after which systematic growth continued, reaching 73 years in 2010 and 73.6 years in 2015.
In the current decade, despite a minor and short-term fluctuation during the global pandemic, when the indicator fell to 73.4 years at the end of 2020, the national demographic system quickly returned to a trajectory of confident growth.
In the post-pandemic period, the dynamics accelerated noticeably. In 2024, the average life expectancy of citizens of Uzbekistan rose to 75.1 years, and by the end of 2025, it stabilized at a record historical maximum of 75.4 years.
