Uzbekistan Attracts US$690 Million in Sovereign Financing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan ranked among the top five largest recipients of sovereign financing in the Eurasian region in the first half of 2026. According to the updated database of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), international financial institutions, development agencies, and climate funds approved US$690 million in financing for the country.

As of 1 July 2026, the total volume of approved sovereign financing in the Eurasian region since the beginning of 2008 exceeded US$300 billion.

During the first six months of 2026, the volume of approved sovereign financing across 13 countries in the region reached US$7.8 billion. The largest recipients of the funds were Kazakhstan with US$3.22 billion, Pakistan with US$1.38 billion, Armenia with US$880 million, Azerbaijan with US$810 million, and Uzbekistan with US$690 million.

EFSD member states accounted for US$4.37 billion, or 55.4% of the total approved financing during the reporting period. In addition to Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Uzbekistan, significant volumes of funds were approved for Tajikistan at US$160 million and Kyrgyzstan at US$98 million.

Gennady Vasiliev, Director of the EFSD Partnership Department, noted that the Sovereign Financing Database (SFD) was created to consolidate information on sovereign financing in the region into a single analytical system. According to him, the resource already covers operations worth over US$300 billion and allows for the analysis of long-term trends, the sectoral structure of financing, the distribution of funds between countries, and the activity of international financial institutions.

The EFSD has been implementing the analytical project to monitor the sovereign financing of countries in the Eurasian region since 2022. The SFD database is updated quarterly and contains information on the operations of international financial institutions, development agencies, and climate funds, including recipient countries, projects, financing volumes, terms of fund provision, co-financing details, and project implementation stages.
