Uzbekistan and Iraq Establish Joint Business Council
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The inaugural meeting of the Uzbekistan–Iraq Business Council took place in Tashkent on 18 June 2026 within the framework of the Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum. The new structure was established following a meeting between business and government representatives from both countries.
The meeting was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan with the participation of an Iraqi delegation led by Minister of Trade Mustafa Nizar Jumaa. The Uzbek side was led by Davron Vakhabov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the event was also attended by Ayubkhon Yunusov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Kuwait.
During the discussions, the parties reviewed the current state of trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Iraq and outlined directions for their expansion. Special attention was paid to developing cooperation in the electrical engineering industry, the production of building materials, and the food sector.
The sides also specifically raised issues regarding increasing mutual trade turnover, launching joint investment and production projects, and strengthening direct ties between representatives of the private sectors of the two countries.
Following the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Iraqi Economic Council, which served as the basis for establishing the Uzbekistan–Iraq Business Council.
The parties noted that the creation of the new Council forms an institutional foundation for the systematic development of business interaction and the expansion of economic partnership.
B2B meetings between entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and Iraq were also organized within the framework of the event, during which promising projects were discussed and direct business contacts were established.
