Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Iran have discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation, strengthening investment ties and exploring alternative transport routes, Uzbekistan’s Dunyo news agency reported.
The issues were discussed at a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Fariddin Nasriev and Bahman Abdollahi, chairman of the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives.
The sides reviewed prospects for increasing bilateral trade, promoting investment cooperation between businesses and exchanging professional expertise.
They also discussed the possibility of arranging a visit by Iranian business representatives to Uzbekistan to explore opportunities for joint projects.
The Iranian side noted that the conditions Uzbekistan has created for business activity support the development of trade and economic ties between the two countries.
Transport and logistics cooperation was another key topic. Discussions covered the potential establishment of air links, the development of alternative transport corridors and direct contacts between relevant government agencies.
Nasriev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s interest in further strengthening bilateral relations and its readiness to facilitate the implementation of the initiatives discussed.
Founded in 1994, the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives (ICC) is the country’s highest non-governmental representative body for the cooperative sector. According to the figures cited, Iran has around 104,000 cooperatives with more than 18 million members, providing 1.8 million jobs.
The sides agreed to continue cooperation in the areas discussed, focusing on practical results in trade, investment, transport and logistics.
