Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has adopted the Law "On Compensation for Damage Caused by an Unlawful Decision, Action or Inaction of a State Authority or Its Official" (Law No. ZRU-1161 of 27 July 2026), establishing procedures for compensating damage suffered by individuals and legal entities.

Under the law, the amount to be recovered as compensation will be determined on the basis of a court decision that has entered into legal force.

Material damage and/or moral harm caused to an individual or legal entity will be compensated in monetary form from the territorial compensation fund. Payment will be made on the basis of a writ of execution issued in accordance with the court's ruling.

If the court identifies a specific person responsible for the damage, the material damage and/or moral harm must be compensated by that person. The law also gives the responsible individual the right to compensate the damage voluntarily in accordance with the established procedure.

If compensation has been paid from the territorial compensation fund and a right of recourse against the responsible person subsequently arises, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the khokimiyats of the regions and the city of Tashkent will submit the relevant claim to the state authority where that person works or previously worked.

The law will enter into force six months after its official publication.
