Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A woman wanted internationally on suspicion of fraud has been detained in Türkiye and returned to Uzbekistan.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the interior ministries of the two countries, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul said.

According to the diplomatic mission, the woman, identified as M. N. and born in 1991, is suspected of gaining the trust of citizens and obtaining large sums of money from them under the pretext of running a joint business.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 168 of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code, which covers fraud.

Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan and Türkiye continue to cooperate in locating other wanted individuals, detaining them and returning them to Uzbekistan.

The Consulate General noted that staying abroad to evade justice does not exempt individuals from criminal liability.
