Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — A joint operation in Tashkent has foiled an attempt to sell 1.185 kg of hashish worth US$26,000, Uzbekistan’s State Security Service said.
Two residents of Denau in Surkhandarya Region were detained in the operation involving officers of the State Security Service’s Karakalpakstan department, customs authorities and internal affairs bodies.
One of the suspects, born in 1988, was detained at a hotel in Tashkent’s Yakkasaray district. Investigators said he had agreed to sell the batch of hashish to an undercover buyer for US$26,000. He was detained after receiving US$21,000, with the drugs and other evidence found in his possession.
His alleged accomplice, a 1987-born driver of a Cobalt car, was detained near the hotel. According to law enforcement authorities, he had transported the drugs from Surkhandarya Region to Tashkent.
Both suspects had previously been held criminally liable. One had been convicted of a drug-related offence, while the other had been convicted of theft.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects, and investigative proceedings are underway.
