TİKA Launches Beekeeping Project in Kashkadarya Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has implemented a beekeeping project for women and young entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region. The initiative was carried out in cooperation with several local organizations, including the administration of the city of Karshi and regional educational institutions.
As part of the project, participants completed comprehensive training courses in beekeeping aimed at developing both practical and theoretical skills in the field. According to TİKA, after completing the program, 20 participants, most of them women, received modern beehives and basic equipment.
The equipment was handed over during a ceremony attended by local officials and Turkish representatives, including Karshi Mayor Jasur Tursunov and TİKA program coordinators in Tashkent.
The project is aimed at strengthening entrepreneurial skills among women and youth, as well as creating sustainable income sources through the development of small businesses in rural areas. Special attention is given to increasing the economic participation of target groups in the local economy.
In addition to its socio-economic impact, the initiative also has environmental objectives. Beekeeping contributes to biodiversity conservation and supports natural pollination processes.
In the long term, plans envisage the development of honey production in the Kashkadarya region, followed by entry into international markets and the introduction of certification procedures to improve product quality and competitiveness.
