Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan and Hong Kong have discussed expanding investment and trade cooperation, including establishing joint ventures, helping companies enter new markets and strengthening business ties.

Jamil Maksudi, adviser to the chairman of Uzbekistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held talks with a Hong Kong business delegation led by Fang Zikang, deputy chairman of the Hong Kong United Trade and Industry Association.

The delegation included executives from trade and industry associations in Hong Kong and Guangdong province, as well as representatives of companies operating in investment, high technology and food services.

According to the delegation's head, the federation, which brings together more than 10,000 enterprises, intends to expand its presence in Central Asia under the Belt and Road Initiative, with Uzbekistan identified as one of its priority destinations.

Hong Kong business representatives expressed interest in establishing companies in Uzbekistan and investing in the hospitality, food service and education sectors.

A company specialising in drone manufacturing is also considering establishing an assembly facility in Uzbekistan using semi-knocked-down (SKD) components.

Another major topic was the possibility of major Uzbek companies and banks gaining access to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

To explore these opportunities, the participants proposed organising a business mission to Hong Kong involving representatives of Uzbekistan's financial sector and major enterprises.

The discussions also covered the establishment of a joint electronic business-to-business (B2B) platform for companies from Uzbekistan, Hong Kong and China.

Hong Kong business representatives said they were prepared to create dedicated sections for Uzbek enterprises on existing trading platforms in Hong Kong and Xi'an.

The initiative is intended to provide additional channels for business cooperation and help Uzbek companies access new markets.

The Hong Kong delegation was also invited to participate in the international forum "New Uzbekistan: Crossroads of Global Markets", scheduled for 29 November to 5 December 2026.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a joint working group and continue exchanging business delegations.

Uzbekistan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirmed its readiness to assist Hong Kong companies in identifying local partners and establishing contacts with relevant government agencies.

The proposed initiatives are aimed at expanding bilateral business ties, attracting investment and creating additional opportunities for companies seeking to operate in Uzbekistan and international markets.
