Sindarov Finishes Eighth in Poland Rapid Event
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov finished eighth in the rapid section of the Super Rapid & Blitz Poland tournament. After nine rounds, he scored 8 points out of a possible 16.
On the third day of play, Sindarov recovered from three consecutive losses to score 4 points from six games. He defeated Vladimir Fedoseev and drew against Fabiano Caruana and Alireza Firouzja.
According to Chess.com, Sindarov’s game against Fedoseev was one of the Uzbek player’s key performances in the rapid event. He entered sharp complications on move 11 and converted his advantage in an endgame featuring a rook and two pawns against his opponent’s two minor pieces.
In his game against Fabiano Caruana, Sindarov sacrificed the exchange and gained positional control over the light squares. Chess.com assessed the position as favorable for the Uzbek grandmaster, although without a decisive continuation.
After nine rounds of rapid play, Sindarov joined a group of players on 8 points, alongside Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Alireza Firouzja scored 6 points, while Radosław Wojtaszek collected 5.
Hans Niemann won the rapid section with 13 points. Wesley So finished second with 12 points, while Vladimir Fedoseev placed third with 11.
The Super Rapid & Blitz Poland tournament is being held from 5 to 10 May as part of the Grand Chess Tour. The rapid format uses a time control of 25 minutes plus a 10-second increment per move. A win is worth 2 points, a draw 1 point, and a loss 0 points.
Following the rapid section, players move on to the blitz competition, which consists of 18 games. In blitz, a win is worth 1 point.
The first day of blitz games begins on 8 May. The overall tournament winner will be determined by the combined results from both disciplines.
