Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the State of Qatar to attend mourning events following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
During the visit, Mirziyoyev met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at Lusail Palace. At the start of the meeting, the Uzbek president expressed his sincere condolences on the death of the Emir's father.
Mirziyoyev said Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani had made a significant contribution to Qatar's development, the implementation of large-scale socio-economic reforms and the strengthening of the country's international standing. He also highlighted the former Emir's role in advancing friendly relations and broad-based cooperation between Uzbekistan and Qatar.
The Uzbek president noted that Qatar today plays an important role in promoting peace and stability in the region and that Doha enjoys high international standing.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed prospects for further strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Qatar, expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors, and exchanged views on current regional and international issues.
For his part, the Emir of Qatar thanked Mirziyoyev for his personal visit and expressed his appreciation for the words of support and condolences, stressing the importance of Uzbekistan's gesture of friendship during this period.
At the conclusion of the talks, Mirziyoyev invited the Emir of Qatar to visit Uzbekistan at a mutually convenient time.
As part of the visit, the Uzbek president also attended the mourning ceremony held in memory of the former Emir of Qatar. After completing the programme, Mirziyoyev departed Doha for Tashkent.
