Russian car maker urges government to limit Uzbek cars imports
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
The AvtoVAZ open joint-stock company has urged the Russian government to limit the import of Korean Daewoo cars from Uzbekistan.
AvtoVAZ President Boris Aleshin sent a relevant letter to Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Andrey Klepach, the Kommersant [newspaper] writes.
Aleshin said that Uzbekistan had been artificially creating barriers to exports of cars from Russia. Therefore, he proposed that duties for importing Daewoo should be introduced as a response, as well as VAT for Uzbek cars should be raised.
Currently, in line with a free trade agreement with Uzbekistan, no duties are imposed on Uzbek Daewoo cars.
Russia imports nearly 100,000 Daewoo cars from Uzbekistan annually.
