Obninsk NEW 2026 Forum to Gather Young Nuclear Professionals From 70 Countries

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — The international youth nuclear forum "Obninsk NEW 2026"—a leading discussion platform for technology, innovation, and education in the global nuclear sector—is set to take place in Obninsk, Russia.

The event is organized with the support of the Rosatom State Corporation, the Government of the Kaluga Region, and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

The forum will bring together more than 500 young specialists from 70 countries, while thousands of students will connect online across 25 partner venues. High-level delegations will represent 10 nations. The central theme of this year's forum focuses on the role of dreams as a source of personal, professional, and technological development.

The participants will be addressed by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom; Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia; and Vladislav Shapsha, Governor of the Kaluga Region. Welcoming statements are also expected from Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, and Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association.

The agenda features the main plenary session, titled "Nuclear Energy for the Future of Mankind: Combining Technologies, Knowledge, and Partnerships," alongside thematic panels dedicated to nuclear medicine, quantum technologies, and the future of nuclear education. Within the framework of the youth agenda, attendees plan to discuss how youth communities are transforming the global atomic industry and explore the potential of international cooperation among the next generation of professionals.

In parallel with the forum, an educational marathon is running from 22 June to 2 July. This includes the first phase of a joint program by the Rosatom Corporate Academy and the IAEA for nuclear newcomer countries, the "Obninsk Tech" Summer University, and the "[in]Visible Power" international female leadership camp.

The sidelines of the forum will also host the presentation of the Youth Declaration for Nuclear Cooperation and the "Forecast ID" analytical session—an educational intensive focusing on strategic forecasting for young industry representatives.

The forum is closely linked to the development of the "Obninsk Tech" International Scientific and Educational Center, established on the initiative of Rosatom, MEPhI, and the Government of the Kaluga Region, with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The center is designed to train human resources for nuclear projects both in Russia and abroad. By 2030, Russia aims to secure more than 20% of the global market for nuclear and related education.
