Narbaeva Discusses Youth Policy with UN Official
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs and Head of the UN Youth Office Felipe Paullier on the sidelines of the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, according to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The parties discussed the development of cooperation in youth policy, the participation of young people in decision-making, and interaction between the parliament and the UN.
The meeting participants noted the importance of joint efforts to promote the global youth agenda and ensure meaningful participation of young people in decision-making processes. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan views young people not only as beneficiaries of state support, but also as active participants in transformations and partners in shaping state policy.
Special attention was paid to the work of the youth parliaments under the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. These platforms enable young people to learn about legislative processes, submit their own initiatives, and participate in discussions on pressing national development issues.
The sides also discussed the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to establish a "World Youth Movement for Peace" headquartered in Uzbekistan. Participants expressed interest in further promoting this initiative and considering practical implementation mechanisms involving young parliamentarians and youth organizations from various countries.
Establishing systematic cooperation between the UN Youth Office and youth parliaments, as well as expanding the participation of Uzbek youth in UN programs and international platforms, were identified as promising areas of interaction. Additionally, the parties outlined opportunities to implement joint initiatives on the climate agenda, digital transformation, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Narbaeva wished success for the upcoming General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union scheduled to take place in October 2026 in Tanzania.
