Mirziyoyev, WHO Chief Discuss Healthcare Modernization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks on April 21 with Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who arrived in the country on an official visit.

During the meeting, the parties focused on prospects for further expanding cooperation with the WHO aimed at modernizing and strengthening Uzbekistan’s national healthcare system.

It was noted that in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Health Organization has reached a new level. Comprehensive healthcare reforms are being implemented with the organization’s expert and advisory support, in line with international standards and recommendations.

Within this partnership, a number of strategic documents have been developed covering key areas of sectoral development. Efforts are ongoing to train medical professionals, improve primary healthcare systems, diagnostics and disease prevention, as well as to introduce mechanisms of state medical insurance.

The WHO Director-General positively assessed the outcomes of reforms carried out in Uzbekistan. Particular note was made of expanded access to healthcare services, increased life expectancy, reduced maternal mortality, and the active development of digital solutions in the sector.

Following the meeting, the sides agreed to further deepen practical cooperation. Priority areas include improving pharmaceutical sector regulation, внедрение цифровых технологий и решений на основе искусственного интеллекта, as well as implementing joint scientific projects and initiatives.
