Mirziyoyev Meets Residents of Tashkent Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) —President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremonial meeting with residents of the Tashkent region at Yangi Uzbekistan Park in Nurafshan. The event was attended by senior citizens, young people and community activists.

Addressing the gathering, Mirziyoyev said Nurafshan, which until recently lacked developed administrative infrastructure, had become the modern administrative centre of the Tashkent region. He said the city now has new public spaces, cultural and recreational facilities, as well as transport and utility infrastructure.

The president said Nurafshan is the first city in Uzbekistan to be developed under the smart city model. Digital governance, intelligent transport systems, energy-efficient technologies and environmentally friendly infrastructure are being introduced in the city.

According to Mirziyoyev, the strategic goal is to transform Nurafshan into a centre for science, high technology and youth. A Youth Town is under construction and will include a 1,000-seat Palace of Culture, a regional branch of the Academy of Arts, an Artificial Intelligence Centre, an information resource library and a Centre for Professions.

The president also recalled that the foundation stone for the Future Technologies Center had been laid earlier that day. The new complex will occupy a 35-hectare site and will serve as a hub for artificial intelligence, digitalisation, scientific research and high-tech development.

Mirziyoyev also outlined other urban development projects. Under the Nurafshan Business City project, administrative, business, educational, medical, cultural and residential areas are being developed.

Plans include the construction of a 700-bed multifunctional medical centre that will provide more than 60 types of high-tech medical services using telemedicine and robotics. Work is also continuing on a cultural and tourism complex featuring an Eastern bazaar, artisan streets, national pavilions, an amphitheatre and recreational facilities.

The president said the Tashkent region remains one of Uzbekistan's key economic regions, accounting for around 10% of the country's gross domestic product. Over the past five years, the region has attracted US$16 billion in foreign investment, is home to about 3,000 enterprises with foreign capital, and its exports have approached US$3 billion.

Mirziyoyev said a decision had been made to expand public transport routes between Tashkent and the Tashkent region and to introduce modern train services between Tashkent and Nurafshan.

Concluding his remarks, the president expressed confidence in the region's continued development and said the government would continue creating conditions to improve the well-being of residents of the Tashkent region.

A cultural programme followed the meeting, after which Mirziyoyev concluded his visit to Nurafshan and returned to Tashkent.
