Mirziyoyev, IMF Deputy Chief Bo Li Discuss Economic Reforms
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who arrived in the country to attend a meeting of the fund's Swiss Constituency.
At the beginning of the conversation, the representative of the international organization conveyed greetings and best wishes to the head of state from IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
During the talks, the parties analyzed the current state and development prospects of global financial markets.
The interlocutors paid special attention to strengthening practical cooperation, building on the agreements reached during a meeting with the IMF chief in New York in September last year.
The meeting emphasized that the fund plays an important role in the implementation of large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at improving fiscal, monetary, and foreign exchange policies.
The participants of the meeting agreed on the need to expand expert and technical assistance from the IMF. This includes support in developing a macroeconomic strategy, developing digital payments, and liberalizing capital movement.
The financial institution will also continue to assist the republic in improving its national statistical methodology, managing public revenues, and maintaining a free exchange rate.
In addition, the parties agreed to intensify personnel training programs for the ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan's economic sector.
