Malaysian Delegation Visits Samarkand Heritage Sites
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation led by Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Haji Muhammad bin Sabu visited several historical, cultural, and spiritual sites in the Samarkand region during an official visit to Uzbekistan.
One of the main stops of the programme was the Imam al-Bukhari memorial complex. Delegation members visited the mausoleum of the renowned hadith scholar and toured the museum exhibition, as well as learning about his scholarly and spiritual legacy and ongoing restoration and improvement works at the site.
The Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Food Security said the heritage of Imam al-Bukhari holds exceptional significance for the entire Muslim world. He said such complexes play an important role in preserving and promoting the contribution of Islamic civilization to science, education, and culture, as well as in introducing younger generations to this heritage.
It was also noted that Central Asia has historically been the birthplace of prominent scholars who made major contributions to global science.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the Shah-i-Zinda architectural complex, where they learned about its centuries-old history, unique architecture, and ongoing efforts to preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
The guests also visited Registan Square, one of the main symbols of Samarkand. They were briefed on the history of the Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori madrasahs, their architectural features, and Samarkand’s role during the era of the Silk Road.
At the end of the visit, the delegation praised Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve, restore, and promote its historical monuments internationally. They highlighted their unique value not only for the country but also for the Islamic world and global civilization.
