International Investors Assess Uzbekistan’s Financial Market
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Representatives of major international institutional investors discussed prospects for operating in Uzbekistan’s domestic financial market with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The meeting with Adviser to the Minister Jasur Karshibayev was held on 4 September.
The talks were attended by representatives of Finland’s State Pension Fund, as well as pension and insurance companies Ilmarinen, Elo and Veritas, SOKA-BAU and Aktia Bank Oyj.
One of the key topics was the possibility of foreign investors participating in Uzbekistan’s government treasury bond market. The international side expressed interest in entering this segment, after which the participants discussed its potential and the further development of the domestic financial market.
Representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance also presented information on the current state of Uzbekistan’s economy, structural transformations and ongoing economic reforms, as well as the country’s prospects for further development.
International investors positively assessed the reforms being implemented and measures aimed at establishing and developing the domestic financial market.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening Uzbekistan’s credit profile. The sides considered prospects for further improving the country’s sovereign credit rating and achieving investment-grade status.
The participants also discussed approaches to public debt management, expanding opportunities to attract financing in the national currency and further developing the domestic capital market.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance noted that its engagement with international institutional investors covers both current opportunities in the financial market and issues related to its further development.
