Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee met with Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov on 9 September during Aripov’s visit to Hong Kong to attend the 11th Belt and Road Summit. The sides discussed issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was held at the Hong Kong Government House. John Lee said Hong Kong and Uzbekistan continue to develop cooperation based on high-level government contacts and established ties, as well as the results of his previous visit to Uzbekistan.
According to him, the sides are focusing on cooperation in legal services, trade, investment, education, innovation and technology, transport and logistics, culture and human resources development.
John Lee also noted that discussions on bilateral agreements in various areas are continuing.
The Hong Kong Chief Executive described Uzbekistan as an important trading partner for Hong Kong in Central Asia. He stressed that Hong Kong can provide significant support to Uzbekistan in trade and professional services.
The sides agreed to continue joint efforts to expand cooperation in various areas and strengthen the positions of Hong Kong and Uzbekistan as trade and investment gateways to the Asia-Pacific and Central Asian regions, respectively.
The sides also intend to jointly contribute to the quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative by using emerging opportunities to achieve mutual benefits.
