Uzbekistan to Host International Olympiad in Informatics for the First Time
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan will host the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) for the first time in the country's history. The 38th edition of the competition will take place from 9 to 16 August, bringing together 386 school students from 97 countries.
Including delegation heads, coaches, members of the international committee, and guests, total attendance will exceed 900 people, according to the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan.
Details regarding preparations for the Olympiad were announced at a press conference in Tashkent.
According to the ministry, training for Uzbekistan's national team began in November 2025. Around ten training camps were organized with the participation of specialists from Kazakhstan, Poland, and Romania. Following a selection process among 100 students, two national teams comprising eight participants were formed.
Uzbekistan won the right to host the Olympiad in 2023. The country's bid was approved during the 35th IOI, held from 28 August to 4 September in Szeged, Hungary.
The International Olympiad in Informatics annually brings together high school students from around the world to compete in problem-solving involving analysis, algorithm and data structure design, programming, and testing.
Each participating country is represented by a team of four students accompanied by a delegation leader and deputy leader. The competition spans two days, with participants working individually to solve three algorithmic problems during a five-hour session each day.
The official symbol of IOI 2026 is the Humo bird. The logo design incorporates geometric shapes, lines resembling electronic circuits, and binary digits 0 and 1. The binary sequence within the logo reflects the year of the Olympiad and the host nation.
