Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan Rustam Yusupov met with a delegation from the Interstate Coordination Water Commission to discuss expanding cooperation in the study and sustainable use of groundwater resources.

Specialists from the state institutions Uzbekhydrogeology and the HYDROINGEO Institute also participated in the meeting. The participants reviewed the results of efforts to ensure the sustainable use and protection of groundwater in Uzbekistan and exchanged information on initiatives being implemented across Central Asia to promote sustainable water resource management, climate change adaptation, and international and grant-funded projects related to transboundary waters.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to prepare and sign a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Interstate Coordination Water Commission.

The memorandum provides for cooperation in the study of transboundary aquifers and geothermal resources within the water-energy-land (NEXUS) approach, the introduction of an automated monitoring system, and the joint organization of professional development activities for hydrogeologists in the fields of international water diplomacy and water law.
