Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan plans to double the number of daily electric train services on the Ferghana Valley circular route and extend the high-speed railway connection between Tashkent and Andijan to Samarkand under a draft presidential resolution on the development of local passenger transport through 2030.
According to the proposed strategy, daily services on the Kokand–Pop–Namangan–Andijan–Margilan–Kokand circular route would increase from one to two by the end of 2028.
The Ministry of Transport, the regional administrations of Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana, and Uzbekistan Railways JSC would be responsible for implementing the measure.
The draft document does not envisage additional funding for the increase in train services.
Another proposal calls for regular minibus services between Pop railway station and Namangan bus terminal to be introduced by the end of 2028.
The planned service is intended to improve connections between railway and bus transport infrastructure, allowing passengers to transfer between the two modes of transport.
The strategy also proposes extending the Tashkent–Andijan high-speed electric train route to Samarkand by the end of 2027.
The extension would establish a direct Andijan–Samarkand railway connection, linking the Ferghana Valley with Tashkent, Syrdarya, Jizzakh and Samarkand regions.
The draft document also outlines railway infrastructure improvements carried out between 2024 and 2026.
During this period, Uzbekistan purchased three EP3D high-speed electric trains, which operate on the Tashkent–Khojikent, Kokand–Namangan–Andijan–Kokand and Tashkent–Bekabad routes.
In addition, the capacity of four traction substations along the Tashkent–Angren–Pop railway section was increased.
The proposed strategy also identifies transport facilities scheduled for modernization and transfer to management under public-private partnership arrangements.
These include Kokand railway station and Namangan Airport.
The measures form part of Uzbekistan's draft strategy for developing local passenger transport through 2030 and remain subject to approval of the proposed presidential resolution.
